Learn about the different playlist scheduling available for Screenfeed digital signage content.
Playlists come in many different forms, and each is unique in their own way. Additionally, each scheduling software works every so slightly. As such we have some additional parameters to provide you flexibility in your playlist loop.
*NOTE - this only works with MediaRSS/XML and HTML based feeds. Direct URL feeds do not apply.
The first option we will discuss is to set the feed to Random. What this does is randomize the order of items in the feed in which are being returned. Meaning that if you have only 2 or 3 items in the feed, the randomization isn't going to appear as random as it could, as there are only a couple of items in which it can re-order or shuffle around. Whereas if the feed is returning 20 items, the shuffling has a much wider range in which it can operate.
Next we will cover using the skip and take functionality. This allows you greater control over your feed(s) and placement of said feeds within your playlist loop to ensure a great playlist loop. In our example, we will say that the feed itself has 10 total items, with the newest item being number 1 and the older number 10. As new items are published to the feed, they become item #1, and the previous 1 becomes 2, 2 becomes 3, and so on until they leave the feed after item #10.
Now there are two ways in which this can be accomplished, as you can created several feeds via the feed configurator in which we will append the additional parameters to the feed. Or you can create a single feed and then change the variables as needed when placing the feed URL into your software (see example below).
Below is using the skip and take to grab a different single (1) item from the feed;
