How to use filters in Connect.
You can apply a static or parameter based filter to the data used in a Connect App.
Before you begin creating a filter for your App, you will need to connect a widget in an app to a Data source, or create a Manual Data connection. Follow this link to learn about Managing your data.
As an example, I have our Leaderboard - Faces and Names template and will create a filter to only show the Eastern regions with sales over $10,000.
Here is a look at the data connected to the template. The first part of the example will be based on the tally column.
Select the widget that you want to filter. Click on Filter in the Data section, llisted below your data source name on the right hand properties menu.
Choose a Data Column value that you want to use to filter the data. In this example we are choosing Tally which is the sales total numbers.
Click on the arrows to page through each record on the column.
Choose an operation for how you want the filter to handle the property.
You will see only the appropriate operators for the chosen value’s data type can be selected.
In the example the value is a number so the only available operations will be for evaluating numbers. In this example we will choose Greater than as the operator.
Filters can either be evaluated against a value from a url parameter for or a Manual entry. In this case we will choose Manually entered Number since we want the filtered results to always show anyone that has made over $10,000.
Enter in the value (10000). Then click Save Changes.
You should now only see the sales people that made over $10,000.
Using a URL Parameter for Dynamic filters
Filters can evaluated against a parameter to show different data dependent on a key and value added to the end of the preview or published Connect app url. The key and value are called a parameter. In this example we will set up a filter that is based on a parameter input that will be based on the sales people’s region. Click filter to add a second filter.
Multiple filters can be applied to a widget, when adding a second filter select whether you want both filters to apply AND or either filter to apply OR. We will be using AND this example.
Select the Region column for the data column value.
Because we want to show Southeast and Northeast Regions, choose the operator Contains Text. Then choose Value from a URL Parameter. You assign the parameter name you want, in the example we are choosing to name the parameter region and setting the default value to east. Click Save Changes.
The app preview will show the filtered data, of sales leaders over $10,000 from a region in the East.
When the app is published the parameter can be changed to show different data in the url.
To see how this works before publishing click the preview button.
The app will open in a new window, at the end of the preview URL enter in ®ion=west to see the app filtered to only show the western regions.
From a published URL add a ? to the end of the url to apply the parameter. http://kitchen.screenfeed.com/app/48305bkhf9qammvngwmfe1chgg.html?
From a preview URL add a & to the end of the url
http://kitchen.screenfeed.com/app/4rjp3gt9wd369m18cmf6th91gn.html?&appVersionUuid=ff9c4cf2-569e-45af-ae5d-fee1a6a5c4ef&
Next add in your parameter name.
In this example the parameter name is region
http://kitchen.screenfeed.com/app/4rjp3gt9wd369m18cmf6th91gn.html?region
Now add a = and the value to the parameter.
In this example we can enter any cardinal direction and get results, or something more specific like Southeast.

Filter based on Date or Time
If a data connection includes a date or time column you can evaluate against another data value. Choosing Current Date/Time Value you can select if the time from the data source is before or after the current date, time, day of the week, day of the month, day of the year, current month or current year.
